Ambassador Program introduces medical students and residents to OEM
By Enterprise Health on Apr 3, 2025 8:42:37 AM
At Enterprise Health, we’re passionate about advancing occupational and employee health—not only through our software solutions but by supporting the people who make a difference in the field every day. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ve renewed our sponsorship of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine’s (ACOEM) Ambassador Program for 2025.
Why we’re committed to the Ambassador Program
The Ambassador Program plays a crucial role in introducing medical and advanced practice provider (APP) students and residents to the field of occupational and environmental medicine (OEM). Many of today’s occupational health professionals didn’t initially set out to pursue OEM—it wasn’t even on their radar. In fact, countless physicians, nurses, and APPs have told us how they stumbled upon the specialty and instantly recognized it was the perfect fit for them.
But here’s the challenge: OEM continues to face a shortage of qualified professionals, in large part because there’s simply not enough awareness of the field. ACOEM estimates there are roughly 50 job openings for every graduating occupational health resident. That’s a significant demand—and one we’re eager to help address.
How the Ambassador Program works
Led by dedicated occupational health professionals, the program recruits volunteers to serve as ambassadors and present at lunch-and-learn sessions across medical schools and physician assistant programs nationwide. These sessions give students and residents real insights into OEM as a career path—highlighting its many benefits:
- High job satisfaction
- Low burnout rates
- Varied work environments, from hospitals and universities to corporate, manufacturing, sports, entertainment, and public sectors
It’s all about expanding horizons and showing trainees what’s possible within OEM.
Our role in supporting OEM’s next generation
Through our 2025 sponsorship, Enterprise Health continues to fund the Ambassador Program’s events and outreach materials. But our commitment doesn’t stop there.
To increase visibility of the Ambassador Program among ACOEM members and other conference attendees, Jeff Donnell, president of Enterprise Health will moderate a panel discussion at AOHC 2025 in Austin. The panel will feature several leading occ health physicians who will share their stories about how they got into the specialty and ideas for attracting new talent to the field.
We’re also proud to produce OccTok, a podcast where occupational health professionals share their unique journeys into the specialty. These real-world stories provide invaluable perspective—whether you’re a student weighing career options or a seasoned practitioner seeking inspiration.
Why it matters
Ultimately, supporting the next generation of occupational health professionals is about more than filling job openings. It’s about strengthening a field that’s essential to worker well-being, public health and organizational success.
We’re honored to play a part in elevating OEM, and we’re excited to see how the Ambassador Program continues to grow in 2025.
